Workshop: A more integrated approach to teaching and learning in the junior classes (junior infants – second class)
The curriculum areas in the junior classes support an integrated approach to teaching and learning, with links across areas optimising curriculum integration while supporting progression in learning. Curriculum areas recognise younger children’s ages, stage of development and give the teacher greater choice in planning for, and facilitating coherent and relevant rich learning experiences through playful and engaging approaches. In this way greater integration is supported through a variety of pedagogical approaches as well as the increased flexibility described in the proposals on time allocations (p.11).
