Supports for end-of-year reporting and the transition from primary to post-primary

As the 2024/2025 school year comes to a close, NCCA offers resources to assist teachers and school leaders with end-of-year reporting and preparing Education Passports for students transitioning to post-primary school.

End-of-Year Reporting Templates

In 2022, additional end-of-year reporting templates for primary and special schools were added to the suite of reporting materials. Collaborating with teachers and national organizations, these additional materials focus on reporting for children from junior infants to fifth class, especially those with support plans. These templates are available at NCCA Reporting and Transfer and schools can customize them using the Report Card Creator

Video Resource for Parents

A video for parents explains the purpose and value of end-of-year reports, highlighting how they reflect a child's learning and development beyond test scores. The video can be accessed at NCCA Reporting and Transfer and is designed to help parents understand the reports.

Supporting Education Passports for Post-Primary Transitions

Primary schools can support 6th class students transitioning to post-primary education by sharing Education Passports with the relevant secondary school. These passports include details on a child's learning journey, strengths, areas for growth, and any additional needs. When combined with the end-of-year report, they ensure that children and parents have a voice in the information shared. A full guide on preparing and sharing Education Passports is available at Education Passport.

By using these resources, schools provide a comprehensive approach to documenting progress and supporting children’s transition to post-primary school.
