PMC Toolkit: New suite of Strand Unit supports

NCCA has updated the Primary Mathematics Toolkit to include a suite of Support Materials for each of the Strand Units of the Primary Mathematics Curriculum. 

1. Suggestions for children’s learning contain ideas and suggestions for teachers to provide playful and engaging learning experiences within each Strand Unit. They are presented according to the Elements – understanding and connecting; communicating; reasoning; and applying and problem-solving. 
2. Suggestions for teaching include practical suggestions for teachers on how each of the five pedagogical practices can be applied to enhance children’s learning within each Strand Unit.
3. Suggestions for key language detail key mathematical vocabulary relating to each Strand Unit.
4. Suggestions for the learning environment provide teachers with ideas to enrichen the learning environment for children. This environment includes the classroom, the whole school and the outdoors.
5. Suggestions for learning at home include practical ideas and suggestions that teachers can share with parents and guardians to further support and reinforce children’s mathematical learning at home.

These five-part support materials were developed in collaboration with primary school teachers, with an emphasis on offering practical examples, ideas and suggestions that provide for playful and engaging learning experiences as children work towards Curriculum Learning Outcomes.
