Preparation for Teaching and Learning
Since the introduction of the Preparation for Teaching and Learning - Guidance for All Primary and Special Schools, teachers and school leaders have been adapting their practice to reflect this renewed understanding of classroom preparation. Launched in April 2021, the guidance aims to support preparation that is useful, practical and purposeful for all teachers in all school contexts.
Earlier this month a webinar hosted by the INTO, aimed to further support teachers and school leaders in using the Preparation for Teaching and Learning - Guidance for Primary and Special Schools. The webinar was developed through an interagency collaboration and included input from the Department of Education, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST).
The webinar also included the launch of a ‘Getting Started’ booklet. This booklet has been designed to guide teachers and school leaders in making their preparation more concise and purposeful. Through a workshop-style approach, teachers are encouraged to identify the variety of preparation activities they undertake and how these can be demonstrated. Teachers are also guided, step-by-step, to draft short-term preparation documents based on the approach outlined in the guidance. The booklet, along with a variety of additional support materials, can be accessed here.
