Scoilnet.ie – Cultural and linguistic support for schools

NCCA has been working with the Department of Education and a range of other agencies to contribute to a central repository of cultural and linguistic supports for schools. This initiative was established as part of a response to welcome and support young people fleeing the war in Ukraine and seeking protection in Ireland.

Available on scoilnet.ie, the materials aim to support schools in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children. As more resources become available, it is envisaged that they will be added to the existing supports here for primary schools and here for post-primary schools.

NCCA has also collated relevant primary and post-primary resources to support learning and teaching of English as an Additional Language (EAL). These are available on our website:

These materials are designed to help teachers to independently and collaboratively support students with EAL requirements.

In addition to the EAL resources, the NCCA Mo Scéal templates, which were developed to support children transitioning from preschool to primary school, have been adapted to support new pupils from Ukraine. The templates ask children to share what they are interested in and what they would like their new teacher to know about them. Two versions of the template are available for schools:
