TY Guidelines for Schools are being updated

The Transition Year Programmes – Guidelines for Schools are being reviewed and updated. Since their publication in 1994, many developments have taken place and schools have continued to evolve their Transition Year (TY) Programme to meet the needs of their students. The audit will identify the most effective aspects of these TY programmes.

NCCA issued an open invitation to all post-primary schools to participate in the school-based component of the TY audit. The closing date for applications was 10th May, 2022. From the schools that applied, a selection of representative schools will take part in the school-based component of the audit. It is envisaged that the school visits will begin in September 2022.

The school-based component will inform the development of the updated TY guidelines and will be designed to gain insights into the following areas:

  • programme components that make up the school’s TY programme
  • programme planning and evaluation
  • personal development and social awareness of students
  • teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting arrangements.
